This translates as Spring Storms. It is a good mix of catchy tunes and mistaken identities. The setting is in Manchuria and is set around spying between Russia and Japan.
The dress is modern with some military uniforms for the men ans an assortment of long dresses and more casual wear for the ladies.
The opera opens with the Russians planning a military campaign. and being an operetta there is an awful lot of dialogue progressing the plot.
The music is melodic with plenty of good tune which just stop short of being memorable..
The singers are all first rate
The sets are mainly doors which do vary as the backdrops lift.. The action of people rushing in and out
provides some amusements. T Here are a few dance sequences which do not seem particularly relevant but are to me highlights and include a tennis match and a feather boa fan dance
Vera Lotte Boecker is worth a mention for her aria in waltz time
The sequence with petals and the soloists mounting a staircase to nowhere is also pretty good.
The start of act two has a rather demure dance sequence from the ladies chorus which suddenly breaks into a high kicking .can can is a sunrise.
In act two the problems of act one gradually resolve with a surprise marriage, a revolving door with a mind of its own and a rather large plant to hide in. The booklet is informative with arias and timings and a good synopsis.
is a bit of a hotchpotch In style but entertaining.
