For Richard Stanley - the acclaimed writer/director of HARDWARE and DUST DEVIL, as well as catalyst for the hit documentary LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY'S ISLAND OF DR MOREAU - the ultimate real-life horror may be just outside his door: Hidden deep within the French Pyrenees is an area known as 'The Zone', where a shocking convergence of ancient occult legacies may have formed a portal to other dimensions. Stanley explores this shadow-land of unexplained phenomena via chilling history, disturbing interviews and unnerving footage of his own supernatural transmutation that "will make the hair on your neck rise" (Hollywood Reporter). Severin Films presents The Director's Cut of this award-winning documentary - featuring cinematography by Karim Hussein (WE ARE STILL HERE) and an original score by Simon Boswell (SANTA SANGRE) - now on disc for the first time ever.

He brings a certain humanity to topics that many people are skeptical about . Some people will write of this presentation by saying that it’s an “ Unremarkable Document About Mental Illness” , and that’s just plain wrong . This is an honest look at alternate beliefs . To write it off as mental illness is very ignorant . There is certain historical and scientific proofs that support the wild and out there the myths and legends surrounding Rennes-le-Château that a presented here. There is also skepticism throughout , as locals refute these tales . Without being over analytical Richard Stanley uses a combination of his unique narration over visuals and psychedelic effects along with interviews with eccentrics and locals to tell these stories . Richard Stanley and his partners (Scarlett Amaris ) personal stories bookend this feature, and they are the most interesting part of this head-tripping metaphysical movie that stretches the boundaries of time, space, and possibilities, while the bulk of the run time is devoted to spiritual science and wild suggestion.
I find Richard Stanley to be a fascinating , mysterious and creative individual . He’s accomplished a lot as a film maker and it interesting to see what influences him. Although certain elements of this documentary left me mystified I still found it to be a compelling . I enjoyed this documentary in the same way I enjoyed The DaVinci Code , In Search Of and similar films and documentaries.
